The Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector’s Office is looking for an Accountant I to join our team. This is an opportunity to use your accounting and organizational skills in a role that directly supports the work of our agency and helps promote accountability and transparency in Oklahoma government.

Why This Role Matters

Behind every successful organization is a team making sure the financial information is accurate, processes are working, and people have the support they need.

As an Accountant I, you'll be an important part of that team.

You'll work with accounting information, employee records, billing, travel, fleet operations, financial systems, and administrative processes. You'll also work with audit teams and agency leadership, giving you exposure to a broad range of financial and operational activities.

This is more than entering numbers into a system. Your attention to detail helps our agency operate effectively and deliver on its mission.

What You'll Be Doing

Working with the Deputy State Auditor and Comptroller, you'll provide accounting, financial, and operational support across the agency.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Managing and entering timesheet information for approximately 60 employees into the agency's billing system.
  • Preparing invoices and coordinating with audit managers to ensure information is accurate and ready for final approval.
  • Reconciling timesheet information with the state's Workday system.
  • Maintaining employee leave balances and reconciling records with Workday.
  • Reviewing travel claims for compliance with state laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Managing the agency's fleet program, including vehicle reporting and review and approval of fleet invoices.
  • Serving as the Pension Commission Administrator, including coordinating quarterly meetings and preparing, recording, and transcribing meeting proceedings.
  • Preparing audit reports for publication on the agency website.
  • Providing administrative and operational support to the State Auditor and senior leadership.
  • Supporting agency projects, programs, reports, and special assignments.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone who is accurate, organized, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of their work.

Preferred skills include:

  • Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, financial administration, or office management.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to getting things right.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently while also being a collaborative team member.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience with Workday or other financial/enterprise systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and financial procedures.
  • Familiarity with Oklahoma state government accounting policies, statutes, or procedures is preferred.
  • A strong sense of ethics, professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment.

Education & Experience

Three years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, office management, or a related field is preferred, particularly experience involving state government.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, with one year of college substituting for one year of required experience.

What We Offer

Competitive Compensation starting salary between $50,000–$57,000, with compensation based on education, certifications, and experience. Benefits consisting of:

  • Retirement plan: Defined contribution with employer match of up to 7% and voluntary contribution plan.
  • Comprehensive health insurance: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Dependent life, and Flexible medical spending account with a generous benefits allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents.
  • Time Off:
  • 11 paid state holidays each year.
  • 120 hours of annual leave per year, with monthly accrual beginning immediately.
  • 120 hours of sick leave per year, with monthly accrual beginning immediately.
  • Longevity bonus after two years of consecutive service.
