About the position:
The person in this position will work in Barr’s Minneapolis office as part of our Corporate Accounting group. The Accountant plays a key role in our general ledger, reporting, and financial planning efforts. The work will be completed for a variety of staff members, from entry- and mid-level employees to our management team and board of directors. An emphasis on problem-solving, client service, and accurate work is crucial. Top-notch Excel skills are critical to this person’s success.
Specific duties will include:

Responsible for general ledger activities in a multi-company and multi-currency environment. This includes coordinating periodic and year-end closing activities and preparing periodic and year-end journal entries as input to the general ledger.

Preparing internally generated company financial statements required for external reporting, including the balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, aging reports, borrowing base certificate, and periodic financial ratio reporting required for bank covenants.

Responsible for internal reporting to support management and business unit needs. For example, the person will prepare reports directly from our accounting systems along with ad hoc reporting using query tools and spreadsheets. At times, this individual may also be asked to help users interpret and use the information provided in the reports.

Performing reconciliations of various general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.

Conducting detailed intercompany reconciliation to identify discrepancies, facilitate timely resolution, assisting with processing intercompany transactions, and maintaining accurate financial records.

Developing and maintaining detailed documentation for accounting processes and procedures, ensuring clarity and consistency.

Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance within the accounting function.

Serve as a core team member for Deltek Vantagepoint acting as a liaison between the Finance Department and the Information Technology (IT) Department to ensure seamless communication and collaboration on Vantagepoint-related initiatives. Completing a variety of other, related tasks as requested.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minimum of eight years of related experience or associates degree in accounting with ten years of related experience. To be designated a senior accountant, ten or more years of related experience are necessary, along with a bachelor's or associate degree.

Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Strong, practical knowledge of accounting theory and practices related to foreign currencies.

Strong Microsoft Office skills.

Advanced Excel skills and demonstrated proficiency with functions such as pivot tables, VLOOKUP’s, and IF THAN statements.

Experience working with query-based tools that require knowledge of database structures, tables, joins, and criteria statements.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.

Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills.

Dedication to providing accurate work and excellent attention to detail.

Effective task management and self-initiative.

Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or Deltek Vision.

Work experience in a professional services organization.

Work experience in a project accounting-based environment.

Experience applying tax principles and practices for businesses.

Advanced query experience making customized reports (SQL).
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office.
