What is an Accountant – Financial Reporting & Research?
Financial Reporting and Research (FR & R) is responsible for the timely preparation and reporting of monthly financial results. Additionally, FR & R compiles the quarterly and annual financial statements and footnote disclosures based on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including the Management Discussion and Analysis (MD & A) and required Regulatory filings. FR & R is also responsible for researching, assessing applicability and implementing new accounting pronouncements or other regulatory orders. Internally, results are communicated to our parent organization, executive team and the Board of Directors. Externally, we provide information to regulatory agencies and investors
What does an Accountant – Financial Reporting & Research do?
Completes complex accounting transactions
Prepares internal and external financial reports including required regulatory filings
Researches, interprets, and implements new accounting and reporting standards in accordance with FASB requirements, the Public Service Commission and other regulatory agencies or new business transactions or projects
Performs financial analysis of results, including actual versus budget and year over year, and investigation and resolution or conclusion of variances
Provides support for storm restoration efforts
What does it take to be an Accountant – Financial Reporting & Research?
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field of study and prior work experience researching, interpreting, documenting and/or implementing FASB pronouncements
Working knowledge of current and newly released FASB pronouncements
Strong computer skills including a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Excel)
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with internal customers in an interactive team environment
Ability to work in a deadline-oriented, fast paced environment
Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
Well-developed written/verbal communication skills
Must be able to work extended/off-hours and weekends when required
Valid driver’s license
Preferred:
Master’s degree in Accounting or MBA
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Working knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley
Experience in Workiva
Experience in the regulated Utility industry
Significant experience in the field of Financial Reporting & Research
Public Accounting experience, particularly with a Big Four Accounting Firm
