Position Summary

The Account Manager is responsible for managing and administering the established New York public school insurance portfolio. This role delivers responsive account service, coordinates policy transactions and compliance activities, supports underwriting operations, and strengthens relationships with insureds, brokers, agents, and internal partners. The Account Manager also contributes to business retention and growth by identifying opportunities, cultivating leads, and sharing market intelligence.


Essential Responsibilities
  • Manage required compliance activities and written communications, including processing cancellation and nonrenewal notices.
  • Prepare accurate new-business and renewal proposals for presentation to insureds, agents, and brokers.
  • Coordinate the marketing and processing of new and renewal policies, including ordering and issuing binders, certificates, endorsements, and policy documents within established service timelines.
  • Maintain complete and accurate account documentation, including a written record of actions, decisions, and customer communications.
  • Provide weekly activity and status reporting to management for the underwriting team.
  • Conduct consultative conversations with insureds, brokers, agents, and Marketing Associates; respond promptly and professionally to telephone and email inquiries.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements that increase operational efficiency, accuracy, and service quality.
  • Support market penetration and profitable growth through lead generation and business-development activities.
  • Build, maintain, and expand customer relationships through telephone, email, and other approved communication channels, helping cultivate opportunities.
  • Gather and communicate competitive market intelligence to Territory Sales Managers, including follow-up on lost business when appropriate.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of property and casualty insurance products, policy documents, terminology, and account-management practices.
  • Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements applicable to insurance transactions in New York State.
  • Strong customer-service and relationship-management skills, with a consultative and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills, with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and work independently through completion.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across underwriting, processing, compliance, marketing, and sales functions.
  • Sound judgment, initiative, professionalism, reliability, and a positive approach in a fast-paced environment.

Education, Experience, and Licensure
  • Five or more years of insurance industry experience, including account management or customer service responsibilities; experience supporting public entities or educational institutions is preferred.
  • Active New York State Property and Casualty insurance license required.
  • Active New York State Life, Accident, and Health insurance license preferred or required based on assigned responsibilities.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

$50,000 - $65,000/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
