Outside Sales Representative – New Business Development

Location: Remote – Local to Michigan or Ohio

Territory: Northeast Region

Travel: Frequent Local and Overnight Travel Required

Greif is expanding our sales team and seeking a driven Outside Sales Representative – New Business Development professional to accelerate growth across our Northeast territory. This is an exciting opportunity for a results-oriented sales professional who thrives on building relationships, creating new business opportunities, and delivering profitable growth. We are looking for a true hunter who enjoys being in front of customers, uncovering opportunities, and winning new business. While maintaining and growing existing accounts, this role will focus heavily on business development and expanding Greif’s presence within key markets.

Local Presence Matters

Although this is a remote opportunity, candidates must reside in Michigan or Ohio to effectively manage customer relationships and support travel requirements throughout the assigned northeast territory.

What You'll Do

As an Outside Sales Representative, you will be responsible for growing a defined territory through a combination of new business development, account management, and strategic sales execution. You will partner closely with internal teams to deliver exceptional customer experience while driving revenue, volume, and margin growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own a defined territory and deliver revenue, volume, and margin objectives through disciplined opportunity management.
  • Develop and execute strategic account plans for key customers and prospects.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities to expand market share and achieve sales targets.
  • Maintain and grow existing customer relationships while identifying opportunities for increased profitability and share of wallet.
  • Create, present, and negotiate customer proposals, pricing agreements, and commercial terms.
  • Execute repricing actions for underperforming accounts when necessary to improve profitability.
  • Forecast monthly and quarterly sales performance with accuracy and proactively manage pipeline activity.
  • Coordinate customer visits, plant tours, product trials, and technical consultations to support business development efforts.
  • Collaborate with Inside Sales, Customer Service, Operations, Supply Chain, and other cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Utilize CRM tools to manage sales pipeline, account activity, forecasting, and opportunity tracking.
  • Monitor and address service, quality, and delivery issues while driving timely resolution through internal partnerships.
  • Build relationships across customer organizations, including purchasing, operations, and executive leadership teams.
  • Champion safety, compliance, and company values during all customer and internal interactions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Typically requires 4–8 years of sales, business development, or account management experience.
  • Experience in industrial packaging, manufacturing, distribution, or related industrial markets is preferred.
  • Demonstrated record of meeting or exceeding sales goals and business development objectives.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience using CRM systems to manage pipeline development, forecasting, and customer relationships.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen with demonstrated pricing and negotiation capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with executive-level presence.
  • Ability to analyze sales, market, and customer data to identify growth opportunities and develop action plans.
  • Strong relationship-building and consultative selling skills.
  • Proven ability to influence decision-makers and close complex sales opportunities.
  • Collaborative approach to working with Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Customer Service, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-directed and accountable with a strong focus on results and execution.
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote, territory-based sales environment.

Total Target Compensation Range: ​The total target compensation range for this position, including sales incentives, is $125,100 – $200,200. Typically, a competitive range for new hires will fall between $130,000 – $160,000. Offers for this position may vary based on market data and other factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. The position is eligible for participation in the company’s sales compensation plan
