The Employee Health & Benefits Account Executive (AE) is a senior, client-facing leader within Employee Health & Benefits Consulting, accountable for the strategic direction, retention, and growth of an assigned book of client relationships. The AE serves as the primary point of contact for client decision-makers, sets the long-term consulting strategy in partnership with the client, and resolves difficult problems that require sound judgment, deep technical knowledge of the benefits landscape, and the ability to mobilize cross-functional resources.

                

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Account Leadership

  • Own the overall strategic relationship and outcomes for an assigned book of business; serve as the primary executive contact for client decision-makers;
  • Set the multi-year consulting strategy for each assigned client in partnership with the client and internal team; align deliverables to client business objectives;
  • Lead resolution of difficult client issues that require independent judgment, escalating only the most complex matters; partner with internal experts to bring forward fit-for-purpose solutions;
  • Direct the day-to-day client service team to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery aligned to the agreed strategy;
  • Lead client renewal strategy, including financial analysis, plan design recommendations, vendor negotiations, and stewardship presentations;
  • Conduct executive-level strategic planning meetings
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for the assigned book of business and own resolution to closure;
  • Develop and execute account plans that drive retention and organic growth across the assigned book;
  • Identify and capture new sources of revenue within assigned accounts (additional product lines, voluntary benefits, specialty services);
  • Lead RFP and marketing processes for assigned clients; partner with Underwriting and specialty teams on proposal strategy;
  • Negotiate contract terms, rates, plans, schedules, resources, and roles/responsibilities;
  • Identify factors that influence business performance and recommend actions to improve profitability and enhance revenue for MMA East;
  • Contribute to internal best-practice development; identify opportunities to improve consulting tools, templates, and workflows;
  • Maintain current expertise in the dynamic and competitive benefits landscape, including market trends, carrier offerings, and emerging regulatory developments;
  • Develop and maintain skills, knowledge, and proficiencies required to be effective in consulting, account management, and client strategy.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required;
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in Employee Health & Benefits consulting, brokerage, or insurance, including direct client-facing account leadership;
  • Demonstrated experience operating at the C-suite level on negotiations, strategic planning, and relationship management;
  • Active Life and Health License required; additional industry designations (CEBS, GBA, RHU, etc.) preferred;
  • Demonstrated experience leading renewal strategy, vendor negotiations, and complex client issue resolution.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and the ability to make decisive recommendations on difficult problems with limited oversight;
  • Deep technical knowledge of the employee benefits landscape (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, voluntary, ancillary, financial wellness) and current regulatory environment;
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively at the C-suite, internal team, and front-line employee levels;
  • Strong negotiation and persuasion skills, including in high-stakes vendor and client conversations;
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of accounts of varying size and complexity, prioritize across competing demands, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment while taking ownership of work and adhering to quality standards;
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop junior team members;
  • Strong project management capability across concurrent client initiatives;
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information;
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and Canva;
  • Aptitude for learning internal systems, applications, and internal workflow of the department;
  • Willingness to travel to client and prospect sites as required.

WORK LOCATION

  • Work is typically performed in a hybrid manner at MMA East’s Conshohocken, with travel to client sites as required.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $130,000 to $160,000.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, and education. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
