Job Description:
The Tutor Coordinator will assist the Shell Tutorial Center (STC) Academic Support Program Manager in the overall operation of the academic support unit which provides course support for students through the LSU Center for Academic Success, a nationally certified Learning Center of Excellence. This position is charged with the administration and oversight the Peer Tutoring program in the Tutorial Center, a drop-in and appointment based tutoring service. The Tutor Coordinator is required to stay current with best practices in academic support operations, facilitation techniques, and program accreditation for tutor program with the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).
55% Hiring, training, scheduling, supervision
- Assist the Program Manager with the recruitment, selection, and training of undergraduate Peer Tutors to ensure a highly qualified and prepared tutoring staff
- Supervise approximately 100 undergraduate tutors by providing ongoing guidance, mentorship, and accountability that promote professional growth and program effectiveness
- Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for onboarding new Peer Tutors and conducting refresher training for returning tutors to uphold consistent standards of tutoring excellence
- Oversee the scheduling and coordination of tutoring sessions to maximize accessibility, efficiency, and student engagement
- Organize and maintain accurate tutor schedules to support effective program operations and service delivery
- Monitor time-tracking systems, such as TracCloud, to ensure tutors adhere to approved schedules and submit accurate work hours in Workday
- Approve payroll and leave requests for tutors in alignment with university policies and established timelines
20% Administration
- Coordinate with the SI Coordinator to plan and implement academic support events such as the CAS Academic Kickoff and Shell Blitz Day, enhancing program visibility and engagement with students, faculty, and campus partners
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date tutor staff contact information and availability to ensure clear communication and effective scheduling
- Update and manage training handbooks, resources, and program materials to promote consistency and support the ongoing professional development of tutors
- Monitor tutor performance by conducting observations of tutoring sessions and providing constructive feedback to strengthen instructional quality and improve student learning outcomes
- Assist the STC Program Manager and CAS Director with the development and preparation of funding proposals for SI services to ensure program growth, sustainability, and alignment with institutional priorities
10% Outreach and presentation.
- Conduct outreach initiatives to increase awareness of and engagement with peer-led learning services across campus, fostering connections with students, faculty, and campus partners
- Lead the planning and execution of the annual Tutor Awards selection process to recognize and celebrate exceptional student contributions
- Represent the program at relevant professional conferences by attending and presenting, sharing best practices, program outcomes, and innovative approaches to peer-led learning
- Contribute to the success of the Center for Academic Success through active participation in departmental activities, special assignments, and committee work, supporting the center’s strategic goals
10% Development, assessment, evaluation, and reporting
- Collect, enter, and analyze data on tutor services, including attendance, student feedback, and tutor performance, to guide program evaluation and continuous improvement
- Utilize and maintain proficiency in software systems for tracking, reporting, and analyzing program data to ensure accuracy and efficiency
- Assess the tutor program to identify best practices and provide actionable recommendations to the STC Program Manager for enhancing services and improving student outcomes
- Lead the preparation and submission of tutor program certification documentation with the College Reading and Learning Association to ensure compliance with professional standards
- Participate in departmental and university-level strategic planning, assessment, and evaluation activities to align the academic support program with institutional priorities and goals

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree. Experience with peer led learning programs such as peer tutoring and/or Supplemental Instruction. Experience in supervising student employees within higher education setting. Experience in providing services to students in an education setting and/or within university learning centers or academic support (tutoring, Supplemental Instruction). Degree in a STEM discipline.
Special Qualifications
Some evenings and weekends required.
As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency.
