Mission Australia is seeking a passionate and culturally informed First Nations Community Navigator to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families, and communities by strengthening access to culturally safe services and improving outcomes across housing, financial wellbeing, employment, and community connection.

In this role, you will work collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families, community leaders, internal teams, partner organisations, and local stakeholders to develop and deliver culturally safe, community-led initiatives. You will provide specialist cultural advice, support staff capability, and contribute to programs focused on improving housing stability, financial wellbeing, employment pathways, and community connection.

Applicants for this position must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, identify as being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be accepted in the community as such. An applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide culturally safe outreach and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tenants and community members
  • Build strong relationships with community groups, organisations, and service providers
  • Support the development and delivery of community-led projects, events, and engagement strategies
  • Provide cultural guidance to staff to strengthen service delivery and support planning
  • Identify opportunities to improve access, address barriers, and enhance community outcomes
  • Contribute to project evaluation, reporting, and continuous improvement activities

Requirements for success

  • Relevant degree qualification with relevant experience in community services, social work, community development, or a related field; or equivalent relevant industry experience and expertise
  • Experience supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through culturally appropriate and strengths-based approaches is highly desirable
  • Experience in community consultation, facilitation, partnership development, stakeholder engagement, and project coordination
  • Strong organisational skills, including the ability to manage projects, collect information, contribute to reporting, and support continuous improvement
  • Confidence working independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, WWCC and referee checks.
