We are looking for an Intermediate/Senior Accountant with 5+ years of experience in public practice, 3+ years specializing in Canadian Accounting and Taxation. This role offers direct client collaboration and focuses on comprehensive financial management, tax compliance, and advisory services. You will work closely with client stakeholders, partners, and colleagues to deliver exceptional service and add significant value.
As an Accounting Technician, you will be responsible for the planning, preparation and execution of financial statements on behalf of clients. Services will include bookkeeping, review engagements, compilations, T1’s, T2’s and T4’s , government remittances, audit files. You will work with clients under varying reporting frameworks across various industries and sectors and you will be responsible for providing exceptional client service within a scheduled time period.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Preparation of Compilations, Review Engagements;
- Assist on audits;
- Preparation of corporate and personal tax returns;
- Create and analyze financial reports, trial balance;
- Calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records;
- Bookkeeping functions and reconciliation procedures;
- Preparation of external filings, i.e., HST and T4’s;
- Special projects; and
- Other duties as required.
Skills and abilities include, but are not limited to:
- Successful completion of post-secondary education;
- Previous work experience in public accounting is a significant asset;
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
- Work within a confidential environment;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Self-motivated using a thorough and methodical approach on projects;
- Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple projects in a timely manner;
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail;
- Critical thinking skills using logic and reasonability to identify alternative solutions, conclusions and best practices; and
- Excellent computer skills using various accounting programs, i.e., CaseWare, TaxPrep, Sage 50, Quickbooks, Xero and MS Office products.
Requirements & Working Conditions include, but are not limited to:
- Overtime as required to meet deadlines i.e., personal and corporate tax filing, special projects
- Flexibility to multitask between files
- Managing workload to complete tasks prior to deadlines
- Entering time after each task
- Prolonged periods of focus, data entry, analysis and sitting
- Occasional travel to client locations, conferences, training
