As a Field Service Engineer [Customer Engineer] at Applied Materials, you serve as the direct liaison with customers, collaborating closely to install, maintain, and upgrade equipment. You'll use digital analytics for troubleshooting and apply basic diagnostic techniques to assess and address technical issues. Your responsibilities include performing preventative and corrective maintenance on various systems such as electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas systems. Additionally, you'll coordinate and communicate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and exceptional service.

We are seeking anexperienced Abatement Lead Engineer to provide technical and operational leadership supporting Sub-Fab Abatement systems. This role is critical to ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of customer equipment while driving team development, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.

You will act as the primary point of contact for technical escalations, mentor and develop a highly skilled engineering team, and work closely with customer stakeholders to deliver world-class service performance.

This is a Monday-Friday, site based role located at the Intel Ireland Campus.

What You'll Do
Lead Safety and Quality Excellence

• Champion a world-class safety culture and lead by example.
• Ensure compliance with all Applied Materials and customer safety standards.
• Identify and mitigate operational risks while maintaining a safe working environment.
• Lead safety investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure appropriate training, qualifications, and competency levels are maintained across the team.
• Drive quality standards and ensure non-conformances are appropriately managed through to closure.

Lead and Develop the Team

• Foster a collaborative "One Team, One Goal" culture.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to engineers and technicians.
• Support workforce planning, resource allocation, and vacation scheduling.
• Promote accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement across the team.
• Partner with Operations Management to address team challenges and support business objectives.

Own Technical Escalations

• Serve as the lead technical point of contact for production-impacting equipment issues.
• Coordinate resources to investigate and resolve equipment and process escalations.
• Facilitate escalation meetings and ensure clear ownership of actions and recovery plans.
• Communicate effectively with customers and internal stakeholders during critical events.
• Lead root cause investigations and ensure lessons learned are captured and shared.

Enhance Team Technical Capability

• Identify technical skill gaps and support the development of training plans.
• Drive competency development and knowledge sharing across the organization.
• Coach engineers and technicians on troubleshooting methodologies and best practices.
• Promote high standards of technical excellence and equipment reliability.

Support Performance and Business Management

• Provide structured feedback on employee performance and development.
• Contribute to performance management and talent development processes.
• Support service contract performance, operational metrics, and commercial objectives.
• Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reliability, and customer value.
• Monitor KPIs and support initiatives to close performance gaps.

Build Strong Customer Partnerships

• Develop trusted relationships with Intel stakeholders.
• Represent Applied Materials professionally and act as a key customer contact.
• Lead customer meetings and provide regular updates on equipment performance and improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with the customer to identify operational and reliability improvements.
• Support long-term customer success and contract growth opportunities.

You May Be a Great Fit If You Have

• Strong knowledge of Sub-Fab Abatement systems or equivalent semiconductor Sub-Fab equipment.
• Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical activities and coordinate teams in a fast-paced operational environment.

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
