844 - Database Engineer

We need an English-fluent Database Engineer, based in Latin America, available to work remotely.

Responsibilities:

• Design and architect database solutions based on best practices and client requirements, with a strong emphasis on AWS RDS.
• Develop detailed technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, implementation plans, and operational procedures.
• Present technical solutions to clients and address their questions and concerns.
• Provision, configure, and deploy database instances in AWS RDS (MSSQL, MySQL) and on-premises environments (MSSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
• Implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions, ensuring business continuity.
• Conduct major upgrades of databases with detailed look at application requirements.
• Migrate existing databases to new platforms or cloud environments.
• Conduct performance analysis and identify database bottlenecks.
• Optimize database performance in AWS RDS environments.
• Provide expert guidance on database performance best practices.
• Implement and enforce database security policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.
• Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments.
• Implement data encryption both in transit, and at rest.

Requirements:

• Proven experience  in database architecture, implementation, and administration across cloud and on-premises environments.
• Strong expertise in AWS RDS, particularly with MSSQL and MySQL, including provisioning, configuration, and performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience with on-premises databases such as MSSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB.
• Proficiency in database migration strategies and tools, including lift-and-shift to cloud platforms.
• Solid understanding of database performance analysis and tuning techniques, including query optimization and index management.
• Excellent knowledge of database security principles, including encryption, access controls, and compliance with standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, or SOC 2.
• Experience conducting security audits and implementing remediation strategies for vulnerabilities.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation, such as architecture diagrams, implementation guides, and operational procedures.

It´s a Plus:

• Experience creating and maintaining RDS instances.
• Understanding of MongoDB and its query language.
• Experience with MSSQL and MySQL in both on-prem and cloud environments.
