5G Core Network Engineer

MetTel is looking for a 5G Core Network Engineer to join our growing team!

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of our 5G core network, leveraging your expertise in 3GPP standards and protocols. 

• Ensure smooth integration of the core functions (5G SA / NSA, 4G) with existing MetTel infrastructure, enabling a seamless user experience. 

• Configure and manage core network element Containerized Network Functions (MME, SGW, HSS, PCRF, PGW), 5G (SA, NSA) 

• Implement and manage IPX (IP Exchange) solutions for efficient data exchange between network operators and MetTel Enterprise subscribers. 

• Configure and manage roaming protocols (S6a, S5, S8, GTP) to enable seamless connectivity for MetTel Enterprise roaming subscribers. 

• Partner with network engineering teams to integrate the core network with radio access network (RAN), SD-WAN and other network components. 

• Perform regular capacity planning and optimization to ensure the network meets performance and scalability requirements. 

• Monitor network performance, identify and troubleshoot core network issues, and implement corrective actions. 

• Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in 5G core technology, including network slicing, edge computing, and network function virtualization (NFV). 

• Document network architecture, configurations, and procedures for future reference and knowledge sharing. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Have a minimum 5 years of experience in cellular network core architecture and design. 

• In-depth knowledge of 3GPP standards and protocols for 5G core (e.g., NG-RAN, AMF, SMF, UPF) and 4G core (e.g., MME, SGW, PGW). 

• Proven experience in designing, deploying, and managing 5G core network infrastructure. 

• Experience with IPX integration and roaming protocols (S6a, S5, S8, GTP). 

• Familiarity with network automation tools and scripting languages is a plus. 

• Experience with GSMA documents (IR.21) and tools (RAEX) required. 

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 

• Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. 

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

Additional desirable qualifications: 

• Experience with cloud-native network architectures and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, GitOps). 

• Experience with network performance monitoring and optimization tools. 

• Experience with network security principles and best practices. 

*The salary range reflected is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The U.S. pay range for this position is $120,000 to $135,000 annually. Pay varies by work location and may also depend on job -related knowledge, skills, experience and abilities of the successful candidate.
