About the Role
As a Solutions Specialist, you’ll represent 45Drives as a trusted technical expert for our customers.
This is a technical role with a human focus—perfect for someone who enjoys solving complex problems while building authentic relationships. You’ll work directly with customers to understand their needs, troubleshoot hardware and software challenges, and help them get the best possible performance from their storage environments.
You’ll support custom storage systems built on Linux and open-source technologies, working through everything from networking and configuration challenges to system integrity and data security. Just as importantly, you’ll communicate clearly, document what you learn, and collaborate with your teammates to continuously improve how we support our customers.
What You’ll Do
- Respond to customer questions, service requests, and technical issues through our ticketing system.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, storage, and networking issues with clarity and confidence.
- Use Linux commands and ZFS to configure, maintain, and support custom storage systems.
- Work directly with customers to understand their environments, goals, and technical requirements.
- Develop practical, tailored solutions that support each customer’s unique needs.
- Troubleshoot networking challenges involving bonding, subnetting, routing, and connectivity.
- Protect system integrity and data security through proactive investigation and problem-solving.
- Document technical solutions and create clear resources that help customers and internal team members.
- Explain complex technical concepts in a way that is easy for customers to understand.
- Collaborate with Technical Service, Engineering, Sales, and other internal teams to resolve challenges.
- Identify opportunities to improve support processes, documentation, and the overall customer experience.
- Stay current with developments in Linux, storage, networking, and open-source technologies.
What You Need — Required Qualifications
Education
- Completion of an IT-related post-secondary program, or equivalent professional experience in system administration, networking, technical support, or a related field.
Experience
- Practical experience with system administration, networking, technical support, or troubleshooting technology environments.
- Experience communicating with customers or end users while resolving technical issues.

Technical Skills
- Proficiency working with Linux, particularly through the command line.
- Experience or familiarity with ZFS or other filesystems.
- Understanding of basic networking principles, including bonding, subnetting, routing, and connectivity.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to investigate issues, test solutions, and think critically in real time.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to clearly explain technical information to both technical and non-technical customers.
- A customer-first mindset with a genuine interest in teaching, supporting, and helping others succeed.
Certifications / Licenses
- No specific certification is required.
Other Requirements
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be able to work full-time, on-site in Wilmington, North Carolina.
- A valid passport is preferred, as occasional travel to customer sites or our Canadian headquarters may be required.
What Would Be Considered an Asset
- Experience supporting enterprise storage systems or infrastructure environments.
- Hands-on experience with ZFS, Ceph, Proxmox, or other open-source technologies.
- Experience troubleshooting servers, storage hardware, RAID configurations, or network infrastructure.
- Familiarity with scripting or automation using Bash, Python, Ansible, or similar tools.
- Previous experience working in a customer-facing technical support role.
- Experience using service ticketing or customer relationship management systems.
- Linux, networking, or infrastructure certifications.
- Experience creating technical documentation, knowledge-base articles, or customer training resources.
- A valid passport and willingness to travel occasionally.

- Become confident supporting 45Drives storage products, Linux environments, ZFS, and common networking configurations.
- Build trusted relationships with customers by providing clear, thoughtful, and effective technical support.
- Independently troubleshoot and resolve a growing range of customer issues.
- Communicate technical concepts in a way that helps customers feel informed and supported.
- Contribute useful documentation and resources that improve knowledge sharing across the team.
- Work effectively with Technical Service, Engineering, Sales, and other departments to resolve complex challenges.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, response quality, and the overall customer experience.
- Become known as a reliable, resourceful teammate who takes ownership and follows problems through to resolution.
