CONSTABLE (LEVEL I) T07
Key Responsibility Areas:
•Undertakes armed surveillance of streets and other public places/areas and enforces the law in all matters requiring attention on the beat.
•Attends to vehicle accident scenes, illegal posters/advertisements, informal settlement activities, fires, bomb scares, family violence and rescues at specific sites on land and beach and assists with airlifts.
•Arrests, detains, questions obtains fingerprints, documents or otherwise processes suspects, securing the required statements and other related evidence when lawfully required to do so.
•Controls and directs traffic and enforces all parking regulations and bylaws in the absence of a Traffic Warden.
•Attends court and gives evidence in any matter of law enforcement for which the required legal documentation were issued.
•Participates in joint law enforcement exercises and special events/campaigns with the South African Police Services, South African Defence Forces etc.
•Attends to any other emergency situation, disaster or incident until the superior or specialised agency arrives i.e. Ambulance Services etc.
•Assumes responsibility for the following sections when assigned to a particular location Communications Centre, Charge Office, Dog Section, Street Child Unit and Duty Office.

CONSTABLE (LEVEL II) T09
Key Responsibility Areas:
•Undertakes armed surveillance of streets and other public places/areas, taking necessary action and enforcing the law in all matters requiring attention on the beat.
•Arrests, detains, questions obtains fingerprints, documents or otherwise processes suspects, securing the required statements and other related evidence when lawfully required to do so.
•Attends to any other emergency situation, disaster or incident until the superior or specialised agency arrives i.e. Ambulance Services etc.
•Provides sound advice and positively contributes to good relations between the South African Police Services, other law enforcement agencies and the public.
•Issues and serves notices of intended prosecutions and summonses, attends court and gives evidence in any matter of law enforcement for which the required legal documentation were issued.
•Controls and directs traffic and assists with the planning/monitoring of Public Transport Industry related matters.
•Participates in joint law enforcement exercises and special events/campaigns with the South African Police Services, South African Defence Forces etc.
•Assumes responsibility for the following sections when assigned to a particular location:
Communications Centre, Charge Office, Dog Section, Street Child Unit, Duty Office, Special Patrol Group.

SENIOR CONSTABLE T10
Key Responsibility Areas:
•Participating in joint law enforcement exercises with South African Policies Services, South African Defense Forces etc.
•Attending to telephonic and other reports including complaints from the public, other queries/enquiries from various internal/external divisions/organisations/institutions etc.
•Assisting the Transport and Enforcement Sergeants and in particular carrying out the duties involving changing, checking, reporting on and filing of tachographs.
•Supervising the court attendance register for police witnesses.
•Carrying out law enforcement patrols.
•Executing warrants of arrests.
•Conducting interviews for permit applications and carrying out investigations/enquiries in respect of all public motor transport matters.

CONSTABLE (LEVEL I) T07
Essential Requirements:
•Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
•A service-related qualification approved by an authority having jurisdiction e.g. South African
Police Service.
•Valid motor vehicle driving license.
•Nil.
Preferred Requirements:
•NIL
Special Conditions:
•Candidates should be between 18 and 35 years of age.
•Must not have any previous criminal convictions.
•Successful candidates will be appointed as Constables, subject to the requirement of serving a probationary period of 12 months during which time it will be compulsory to complete and pass the prescribed Constable Basic Training Course and obtain a pass mark of at least 50%.
•Fingerprints of successful candidates will be taken.
•Candidates may be required to work shifts covering all hours of the day and night and must also accept the high standards and discipline required of Metro Police personnel both on and off duty.
Physical Requirements:
•Due to the physical nature of law enforcement and traffic control i.e. Apprehending and arresting offenders, physical traffic control duties (point duties) students constables from other structures or other trained students must pass medical examination and be physically fit as well as sufficiently physically able to perform such duties.
•Student constable must pass (pass mark 40%) the physical fitness assessment to secure further consideration and pass the entrance medical examination conducted by metro council medical officer of the health.
•The physical fitness assessment comprises of: 2.5 km run; sit ups; push ups; 10x25m sprints.
CONSTABLE (LEVEL II) T09
Essential Requirements:
•Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
•A service-related qualification approved by an authority having jurisdiction e.g. South African
Police Service.
•Valid motor vehicle driving license.
•Firearm competency
•1 year experience as a Police Constable.
Preferred Requirements:
•Nil.
Special Conditions:
•Foot beat experience where applicable (period at training excluded).
•Must have a reasonable sick leave record.
•No disciplinary record.
•Must have a clean disciplinary record.
•Must not have any previous criminal convictions.
•Must meet the competent level of the performance agreement standard.
•Must have a good attendance record.
•Candidates may be required to work shifts covering all hours of the day and night and must also accept the high standards and discipline required of Metro Police personnel both on and off duty.
•Successful candidates will be appointed as Constables, subject to the requirement of serving a probationary period of 12 months during which time it will be compulsory to complete and pass the prescribed Constable Basic Training Course and obtain a pass mark of at least 50%.

•No disciplinary record.
•Must not have any previous criminal convictions.
•Must meet the competent level of the performance agreement standard.

Skills Required
- Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent
- Service-related qualification approved by the relevant authority, such as the South African Police Service
- Valid motor vehicle driving license
- Firearm competency for Constable Level II and Senior Constable roles
- One year of experience as a Police Constable for Constable Level II
- Two years of relevant experience for Senior Constable
- Valid motorcycle license, or ability to obtain one within six months, for Senior Constable
- No previous criminal convictions
- Physical fitness and successful medical examination
- Pass the prescribed Constable Basic Training Course during the 12-month probationary period
- Candidates for Constable Level I should be between 18 and 35 years old
- Clean disciplinary and attendance records for Constable Level II and Senior Constable
