Job Purpose

Single Project – individual contribution: is a key resource for a single piece of work and manages it completely

Business Insights: identifies key insights and takeaways that help stakeholders ask further questions

Individual who is a proactive, enthusiastic Data Engineer to integrate into our growing team, working across a diverse mix of clients and technologies.

Day-to-day role will be collaborating with other highly skilled data engineers in supporting and developing new and existing large-scale enterprise datacentric on premise and cloud solutions.

Would be assisting with the development of new functionality according to a commercial brief, building new data solutions and updating existing ones depending on the requirements, may also be required to perform peer-reviews to ensure code adheres to best practice, is fit for purpose and scalable, and documenting technical processes in a clear and highly detailed fashion.

As a member of the Data Engineering team, you will be supporting the Advisor, Marketing and Customer Management teams in responding to client and internal work requests/queries, setting expectations, and ensuring process is adhered to.

Individual would receive training and mentoring, where required, to enable you to fulfil the requirements of the role as outlined above.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Can work on projects independently but may require some help in dealing with complex tasks
  • Has a good understanding and can gather requirements from the business and convert them in task / stories that can be worked upon
  • Understands which questions are most important to answer before beginning an analysis project (MOSCOW)
  • Keeps an audit trail; ensures work is easy to review and can always be replicated
  • Has a strong understanding of the amount of time required to produce certain deliverables and can set appropriate expectations
  • Writes tests and creates proactive alerts to prevent or accelerate awareness of future potential inaccuracies
  • Joins and asks questions in training and is confident in making suggestions on what training could help the wider team

  • Follows style guides and best practices
  • Develop and apply growing technical skills in developing and supporting new and existing data solutions across a wide range of Epics.
  • Assist in the development of database solutions utilising technologies including SQL Server, SSIS, Python, Azure Data Factory and Power BI.
  • Generally, solves problems independently, but seeks help from team when needed
  • Can identify potential data inaccuracies and will manage any requests required to fix an error
  • Work with other data engineers to construct data transformations
  • Document technical solution designs based on client and business analyst led requirements.
  • Partake in scoping, planning and requirements analysis, through to discovery, design, development, testing and deployment of each story.
  • Ensure development requirements align with our standards and policies, and with industry best practices.
  • Stay abreast of industry technology innovations, new business practices, and third-party technology solutions.

General Responsibilities

  • Adherence to organisations Risk & Controls requirements
  • Participate in various initiatives/forums/groups and contribute effectively from idea creation to prototype development. Support Strategic programs

Qualification

  • Graduate/Post-graduate. Preferably with specialisation in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering or related discipline
  • Microsoft Azure data engineer certification (good to have)

Experience

  • Overall 4+ years of experience in data engineering 

Required Competence / Knowledge / Skills (Mandatory)

  • Well versed with the tools used such as SQL /Azure /Python and other visualization and Power BI (or other visualization tools)
  • Knowledge of various Azure data services and experience creating secure data pipelines
  • Must have knowledge and have worked on AGILE principles / methodology
  • Approaches work with a positive attitude and curiosity
  • Demonstrates ability to learn quickly & work efficiently
  • Communicates needs and timelines clearly
  • Independently hosting session
  • Ability to communicate a sophisticated analysis in an impactful manner to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Is seen as someone who is easy to collaborate with and adds value to cross-team projects

Good to have Competence / Knowledge / Skills (Desired)

Knowledge or experience working in data related Finance / Banking Industry would be an added advantage
