What You’ll Do:
Navitas is seeking a highly capable and mission-driven Cloud Data Engineer to support advanced data engineering, analytics, and DevOps integration in a secure cloud environment. The ideal candidate will have experience across multiple cloud platforms, big data technologies, and ETL pipelines, and will be instrumental in automating secure, scalable data flows for a key Department of Defense (DoD) client.

What You’ll Do:
Navitas is seeking a highly capable and mission-driven Cloud Data Engineer to support advanced data engineering, analytics, and DevOps integration in a secure cloud environment. The ideal candidate will have experience across multiple cloud platforms, big data technologies, and ETL pipelines, and will be instrumental in automating secure, scalable data flows for a key Department of Defense (DoD) client.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Configure and ingest structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data sources into cloud-based data pipelines supporting analytics and DevOps delivery cycles.
- Maintain end-to-end operational integrity of data transfers, ensuring compliance with security postures and infrastructure reliability.
- Automate configuration management processes using modern DevOps tools and techniques.
- Monitor the health of the cloud environment using dashboards, logs, alerts, and performance metrics.
- Build and maintain Databricks pipelines across Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers for diverse document types.
- Orchestrate workflows for raw ingestion, binary processing, and text/image/table extraction.
- Integrate ML models in pipelines for embeddings, NER, summarization, and FAQ generation using GPU support.
- Manage Delta table transformations and stream to PG Vector with checkpoint-based updates.
- Configure Databricks jobs with orchestration notebooks, logging, and alerts for parallel dataset processing.
- Support data governance by handling document cleanup and source management via notebooks.
- Design modular components for selective data processing and integrate OCR as need
- Analyze existing data architectures to identify opportunities for automation, optimization, cost savings, and system right-sizing.
- Apply expertise in cloud-native technologies to build and maintain cloud infrastructure using vendor consoles and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Collaborate with multiple functional groups to understand mission needs and propose scalable, secure, and efficient technical solutions.
- Maintain and enhance existing web scraping tools used in early-stage data extraction for ETL workflows.
- Prototype innovative solutions, test, deploy, and iterate with agility to meet dynamic client demands.
- Identify and implement scalable, maintainable, and high-performance coding approaches.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree with 5–7 years of relevant experience, or
- Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience
- Skills & Experience:
- Hands-on experience with Big Data systems including Apache Spark and/or Databricks
- Proven background with ETL pipelines and automation of ingest processes
- Familiarity with cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, or MilCloud 2.0
- Experience implementing and automating DoD STIGs (Security Technical Implementation Guides)
- Proficient in multiple programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, Scala, Bash, etc.)
- Strong understanding of Cloud architecture and secure data operations
