Donohoe Construction Company, one of the most prominent, large, and established General Contractors in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area is actively seeking a highly motivated Construction Intern to join our Construction Team.

Responsibilities

Provide administrative and technical functions to multiple construction projects including submittals, RFIs, scheduling assistance, document organization, processing owner and subcontract AIA bills, subcontract coordination, cost engineering, and general project administration. This position is also responsible for assisting in coordinating field operations and supervising specific phases of a project to ensure the installations comply with the contract documents, per the project schedule, and meet our high standard of quality. This individual also shares in the responsibility of maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Qualifications

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsible for assisting with the set-up of project files• Responsible for assisting with administration of project closeout (if applicable)• Assist with development of trade scope packages• Work closely with Project Engineer and Assistant Project Manager on day to day project requirements such as RFI’s, PCO’s, submittals/procurement, and meeting minutes• Aiding in the review of submittals for compliance with Contract Requirements• Tracking and maintenance of Subcontractor / Supplier Contract Requirements• Daily maintenance of logs and tracking for multiple projects• Comprehend contract documents, submittals, cut sheets, and coordination drawings for the specific areas and/or subcontractors under supervision• Assisting with the review the contract scopes of work and ensure that subcontractors are performing the work in compliance with requirements• Review the master schedule and utilize this as a basis to assist in developing and maintaining a short-term progress schedule; aiding in the development of crew flows and durations for each activity and monitor subcontractor compliance• Collaborating with the Assistant Superintendent to update the Superintendent and Project Management team on material and equipment shipments and deliveries• Perform daily safety inspections to ensure a safe work environment and all personnel are using the necessary personnel protection devices for their associated tasks/trades in accordance with the Donohoe Safety Program• Establish effective working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and team members• Participate in weekly Subcontractor Foreman meetings

• Assist in preparing Daily Work Reports• Part of team responsible for jobs ranging between $40MM and $100MM

Knowledge and Experience Requirements

• Preferably working towards an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a Construction-related discipline such as Construction Management or Civil Engineering• Previous experience (i.e. internships) in construction management• Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills

Skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite• Basic understanding of Project Management software • Ability to read blue prints • Basic understanding of construction means and methods and procedures• Good verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills• Ability to work in a flexible work environment and change direction as needed for the given task• Demonstrates a desire to learn and a drive to excel

  • Working toward an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or another construction-related discipline
