As our Software Engineer Intern (Platform), you will help shape the future of interactive physical gaming and realize Nex’s very bold vision: “Create the best motion games for hundreds of millions of people to play on”. You will collaborate directly with the leadership team and product teams across Silicon Valley and Hong Kong, gaining hands-on experience, mentorship, and opportunities to grow your technical skills. At Nex, we value creativity, curiosity, and a passion for innovation.
What You Will Bring to the TableDepending on your background and interests, you may attach to one of three divisions. You’ll receive mentorship, contribute to real product features, and ship improvements that impact users worldwide.
- Core Technology
- Purpose: Advance Nex’s core technologies to enable exceptional and meaningful motion‑based experiences.
- What you might do:
- Build and extend our Motion Development Kit (MDK).
- Prototype and build CV/ML features with real‑time constraints.
- Explore camera systems and other sensing capabilities across devices.
- Develop profiling, benchmarking, and automation tools for core pipelines.
- Platform Software Engineering
- Purpose: Develop and maintain Playground’s on‑device and cloud software for end users and business needs.
- What you might do:
- Develop new features for PlayOS, and companion mobile applications.
- Experiment new architectures for cloud services support Playground and business operations.
- Prototyping telemetry, observability, experimentation, and diagnostics system
- Develop APIs and services that support apps, games, and partner integrations.
- Build developer tooling, test automation infrastructures, CI/CD workflows, and DevOps automation.
- Hardware Engineering
- Purpose: Guide hardware development and push technology boundaries by exploring, evaluating, and validating current and emerging hardware technologies, including SoC platforms, sensors, I/O devices, and other critical subsystems.
- What you might do:
- Explore and evaluate current and emerging hardware technologies for Playground.
- Design and conduct experiments to assess hardware reliability and performance.
- Develop novel solutions and prototypes to demonstrate concepts and feasibility.
- Passion for building scalable, maintainable, high-performance software.
- Curiosity for innovations at the intersection of physical and digital worlds.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a learning mindset.
- Experience in ML-based CV development.
- Understanding of microservices, serverless and API designs.
- Knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, or automation tools.
- Experience in hardware prototyping.
- Enthusiastic about games, or feeling excited about game development.
