The Legal Internship Program at the Boston Red Sox provides interns with valuable professional experience and insight into the in-house legal counsel’s role with a professional sports team. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute to the organizational success of a storied professional sports franchise by completing projects that have been tailored to their educational and professional interests. Interns will work directly with the attorneys in the Red Sox and Fenway Sports Management Legal Department on a number of projects in various areas of sports and entertainment law.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assisting in drafting sponsorship, consulting and event agreements, legal memoranda and correspondence and other legal documents.
- Maintaining summaries of sponsorship agreements and updating the document management system.
- Researching and analyzing various aspects of the law utilizing statutes, case law, secondary resources and administrative regulations, applying analysis to fact patterns, and preparing memos with guidance on how the law will be applied in such circumstances.
- Assisting with special projects as they arise.
- Legal Department interns will also be expected to assist with game-day operations and special events at Fenway Park, attend and engage in a weekly Lunch & Learn Program with senior staff, and prepare and deliver a group project presentation on a selected topic to a panel of Front Office staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current JD candidate.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of department and organizational information and matters.
- Possess excellent communication skills with attorneys and members of other departments as well as third parties.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions.
- Ability to read and write correspondence and memos.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to problem solve in a logical manner and work independently.
- Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
- Applicants should be familiar with the typical summer baseball schedule and comfortable working long hours.
- Must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays from early June to mid-August.
