Software Engineering builds the brains of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our software allows the Waymo Driver to perceive the world around it, make the right decision for every situation, and deliver people safely to their destinations. We think deeply and solve complex technical challenges in areas like robotics, perception, decision-making and deep learning, while collaborating with hardware and systems engineers. This internship will be based on-site at our headquarters in Mountain View, CA.
You will:
- Design and train machine learning models in TensorFlow and/or JAX on real-world sensor data (cameras, LiDAR, radars).
- Develop novel techniques to make the Waymo foundational models more efficient with few shot learning algorithms.
- Evaluate model performance on both the Waymo dataset and academia benchmarks.
You have:
- Currently enrolled in a PhD/MS program in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, physics, or a related technical field of study.
- Strong track record of high-quality research in machine learning, computer vision, deep learning or natural language processing.
- Hands-on experience with LLM (Large Language Models), VLMs (Vision Language Models), and/or multimodal models.
We prefer:
- Publications in top peer-reviewed journals (eg: NeurIPS, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICLR, etc.)
- Prior experience in few-shot learning.
- Prior experience in video/temporal computer vision tasks.
- Prior industry experience (including research internships) in software engineering and computer vision / machine learning.
- Experience with JAX.
