Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for contributing to one of the core functions of the Property/Casualty industry (Claims, Underwriting, Audit, IT, Marketing, HR, etc.).
- Depending on the department, interns are expected to support the business needs and gain an understanding of the industry and business.
Program Objectives
- Offer hands-on training from seasoned managers/mentors to learn the nuances of key functions and departments within a leading commercial insurance company.
- Deliver opportunities to develop professionally in a corporate workplace. This includes programming built to improve presentation, networking, communication, and other non-technical skills.
- Interact with other interns in an intensive 10-week training program that helps them to understand different full-time career opportunities at Starr.
- Opportunity to present a final Capstone project capturing key takeaways and provide a point of accumulation of knowledge and skills learned throughout the summer.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Risk Management or Insurance major preferred, but not mandatory.
- Relevant coursework preferred, but not mandatory.
- Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
- Curious
- Entrepreneurial
- STEM would preferred or liberal arts degree from good university
For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York, Starr Insurance Companies is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets: experience and training: licensure and certifications: and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $20-$25/hour
