Job Description Summary

The position of Orientation Leader (OL) is one that allows a student to make a substantial contribution to Saint Leo University and a lasting first impression on incoming students. OLs help new students and their families in making a positive transition to Saint Leo University. OLs are extremely knowledgeable about campus resources and student success strategies. OLs must understand and support the goals and objectives of the New Student Orientation (NSO) program. Below are the basic OL job responsibilities:
1. University Representative
2. Team Member/Leader
3. Facilitator
4. Event Execution
An OL is required to be on campus 1.5 to 2 weeks prior to the start of the upcoming semester for trainings and planning.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • To serve as a positive role model and resource for new students and their families
  • To initiate and develop an open communication with faculty, advisors, staff, students, and family members attending NSO
  • To work with faculty and staff members, other OLs, and members of Saint Leo administration to facilitate the success of all aspects of the NSO program
  • To lead tours and discussion groups for incoming students and/or parents
  • To serve as a representative of Saint Leo in a variety of situations including social functions and meals
  • To assist in preparation, implementation and evaluation of NSO
  • To perform other duties as deemed necessary by the Student Success professional staff
  • To actively participate in training to become knowledgeable on various aspects of the University
  • Mentor relationships with new students

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • Current full-time student
  • Good judicial standing
  • A passion for helping others
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team, and a willingness to both lead and follow
  • Interpersonal communication skills
  • Reliability, creativity, stamina, flexibility/adaptability, and punctuality
  • Ability to relate to and work with a variety of personality types and diverse groups of people (students, parents, faculty, both professional and student staff)
  • A positive attitude and a sense of humor
  • Ability to work under limited supervision
  • Ability to work long hours (10-15hrs and/or early or late shifts)
  • Able to handle constructive criticism
  • Familiarity with Saint Leo programs and services
