We are looking for a 1099 Interim SPD QA Auditor in the Boston area. The QA Auditor will inspect completed trays, identify and document assembly errors or quality concerns, track trends, and provide objective findings to SPD leadership to support quality improvement and staff education.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent quality audits of completed surgical instrument trays assembled by SPD technicians.
  • Verify tray contents against the approved count sheet or instrument management system.
  • Confirm instruments are correctly identified, properly positioned, and complete.
  • Inspect instrumentation for cleanliness, condition, functionality, and visible defects.
  • Identify missing, incorrect, damaged, improperly assembled, or nonfunctional instrumentation.
  • Verify appropriate internal indicators, filters, locks, labels, and other required components are present and correctly placed.
  • Document all audit findings and discrepancies accurately in the designated tracking system or database.
  • Maintain required audit volumes and ensure audits are completed consistently across assigned shifts, technicians, and tray types.
  • Track and trend tray assembly errors, quality defects, and recurring findings.
  • Review SPM or other instrument-tracking data, when applicable, to identify quality trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Report significant or recurring quality concerns to SPD leadership.
  • Provide timely, objective feedback regarding identified quality deficiencies to SPD leadership and designated educators.
  • Assist leadership in identifying opportunities for targeted staff education based on audit findings.
  • Support corrective action and process-improvement initiatives related to tray assembly quality.
  • Re-audit trays or processes as requested to determine whether corrective actions have resulted in sustained improvement.
  • Identify and report broken or damaged instrumentation and other issues that may affect tray quality.
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and objectivity when reporting individual or departmental performance.
  • Maintain competency in sterile processing standards, applicable guidelines, manufacturer instructions for use (IFUs), and client policies and procedures.
  • Follow all departmental policies, safety requirements, dress code, infection prevention practices, and hospital standards of conduct.
  • Perform other quality assurance activities related to surgical instrumentation as assigned by SPD leadership

Qualifications

  • CRCST, CST Certified Surgical Technologist preferred.
  • Must have 3 years of current experience or 5 years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be local to Boston, MA.
  • Ability to work independently as a 1099 contractor.


Work Schedule

  • Flexible contract schedule based on facility needs.
  • May require early mornings, occasional evenings, or on-call availability.


Pay Range

  • $30 to $50 hourly (based on full-time contracted hours)


Classification

This position is classified as an Independent Contractor (1099) and is not eligible for employee benefits. Contractor is responsible for maintaining licensure, certifications, professional liability insurance, and tax obligations.
