The Sustaining Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a functional team as they leverage change management and good problem solving principles to plan and lead strategic projects, primarily associated with operating margin expansion. They will work closely in multi-faceted teams to focus on process improvements, mostly within consumables manufacturing
This position reports to the Director of Sustaining Engineering and is part of the Global Operations Engineering located in Tsukuba, Japan and will be an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Execute and lead characterization of manufacturing processes to drive improvements to manufacturing capability
- Solve complex problems by using perspective and leveraging experience, and act as a resource to junior associates
- Leverage expanded knowledge and practical expertise of manufacturing processes, machinery, and project management to lead cross-functional cost savings funnel building and execution
- Solve complex problems by taking on a new perspective from experience. Exercise good judgement based on data
- Execute and lead engineering solutions to drive operational margin expansion
The essential requirements of the job include
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering discipline (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, etc.) and track record demonstrating applicable work experience (typically > 8 year in similar work force role)
- Help set function strategy and lead cross functional teams and projects with moderate resource and risk requirements to solve complex problems with a structured approach that supports that strategy.
- Actively lead structured problem solving (DMAIC, PSP,VRK, etc.) and make decisions based on data and advanced statistical analytics
- Strong interpersonal skills (Both Japanese and English), including the ability to effectively and efficiently communicate in both oral and written forms at any level within the organization. Ability to mentor and teach technical learnings to strengthen organizational foundation.
- Identify and follow organized work structure and project management that establishes actions, dates and accountability (daily management, Project VPM, etc.) between multidisciplined teams
- Ability to work independently and self-manage work load by creating strategy and priority activities and to remain flexible and adaptable to changing business needs
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
- Travel up to 25%, mainly in Asia Pacific region
- Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to lift, move or carry equipment up to 50lb, any other physical requirements
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- SAP or similar ERP system
- Minitab, Jump, or similar data analysis and statistical tools
- Strong Microsoft Excel and presentation skills
