Technology is constantly evolving to shape the future, and while there are countless solutions that help digitize the way people live and work, Plano-based Tyler Technologies hopes to modernize the communities where people do so. By partnering with government entities, Tyler is working to transform the public sector and build communities strengthened by technology. As of today, it’s focusing on improving citizens’ access to outdoor activities with a new acquisition.

Tyler develops and installs software solutions to help government clients, from city departments to school districts, better serve the public sector by automating processes and providing data insights to help them operate more efficiently. Adding to its collection of cloud-enabled products and services, on Tuesday Tyler announced its acquisition of New York-based US eDirect, a company developing solutions for campground and outdoor recreation management.

“With the increase in outdoor recreation activities since the onset of the pandemic, demand for these solutions has grown in the last two years,” a Tyler Technologies spokesperson told Built In via email. “US eDirect’s annual recurring revenue has more than doubled since 2018.”

Following the company’s acquisition, US eDirect’s Recreation Dynamics platform will be integrated into Tyler’s digital government and payment services. The cloud-based enterprise platform manages transactions related to things like campground accommodations, tours, events, recreation rentals and outdoor licenses for public agencies such as state park systems and county recreation departments. The company currently serves 40 clients across the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Tyler’s payments platform is powered by NIC, a government-focused digital services company it acquired in 2021. On top of incorporating Recreation Dynamics into its payments solution, Tyler plans to integrate its data and insights platform into the mix as well. The initiative would combine analytics that can help clients better comprehend information and understand their customers’ transactions.

“The acquisition of US eDirect allows us to build on NIC’s 20 years of experience in outdoor recreation and offer a comprehensive, all-in-one outdoor recreation solution,” the spokesperson continued. “US eDirect’s Recreation Dynamics solution is a direct complement to NIC’s current offerings, as well as other Tyler divisions, and will expand our customer base and revenue stream. This platform solution will also give us an immediate international footprint in outdoor recreation.”

Upon joining forces, US eDirect’s team of 60 will continue working from their existing office locations, and the team will be completely integrated with Tyler’s NIC division. Though Tyler’s workforce totals over 6,600, it’s fueling continued growth and is currently hiring for dozens of positions based in Plano. Available local roles span software R&D, IT, marketing, professional services and more.
