The Strategy & Operations Principal will manage an intermodal transit service, oversee daily operations, mentor a team, engage with partners, analyze data for better efficiencies, and ensure compliance with regulations.

Develop and maintain Via’s production algorithm codebase and mission-critical backend services. Improve existing algorithms and business logic, build new technical systems, and optimize performance for global transportation platforms. Collaborate closely with DevOps engineers, algorithm developers, and researchers while owning complex software and working with cloud infrastructure.

Research and develop Via’s core transportation algorithms, using experimentation, data analysis, optimization, and analytical techniques to solve complex problems. Build reliable, production-quality services, analyze large datasets, improve algorithm performance, and take solutions from initial research through deployment. Collaborate with algorithm developers, researchers, data scientists, and software engineers while maintaining mission-critical cloud systems.

Supervise transit drivers on the road, evaluate safety and service performance, provide coaching and training, manage post-accident and incident protocols, and serve as the Designated Employer Representative for DOT compliance. The role is primarily field-based, with 85% on-road supervision and 15% training and administrative work.

Lead Via’s West Coast operations portfolio, owning regional P&L, service performance, growth strategy, and operational excellence. Manage and develop Field Operations Managers, General Managers, and Operations Managers while launching markets and service types. Partner with transit agencies, commercial teams, finance, product, safety, fleet, HR, and other functions to improve reliability, staffing, compliance, customer experience, and margins. Leads Via’s West Coast operations portfolio, overseeing regional strategy, P&L performance, market launches, service quality, safety, compliance, and operational KPIs. Manages and develops Field Operations Managers, General Managers, and Operations Managers while partnering with transit agencies, Commercial, Product, Finance, Fleet, HR, and other functions. Drives growth, resource allocation, root-cause problem solving, stakeholder trust, and operating-model improvements across complex, regulated, people-intensive transportation services.

Lead onsite public transportation operations, making real-time decisions about fleet, drivers, compliance, rider needs, and service disruptions. Manage and retain CDL drivers, promote safety and DOT/FMCSA compliance, resolve operational issues, analyze service data, improve rider and driver experiences, and coordinate with city partners and internal teams. This fully in-person role supports fixed-route transit involving 35-to-45-foot coach buses.

Leads daily onsite public transportation operations, making real-time decisions involving fleet availability, driver supply, compliance, rider needs, and service disruptions. Supports drivers, addresses operational issues, analyzes service data, incorporates rider and community feedback, and implements improvements to efficiency and rider experience. Serves as a liaison among city partners, drivers, and central teams. This fully in-person role is based in Prescott, Arizona.
