The Principal Scientist/Senior Researcher II will lead research in photonic-electronic integration, develop a research team, secure funding, and manage projects, while fostering collaboration and innovation in the field.

Conduct funded doctoral research on passive photonic integrated circuits and scalable control architectures for multi-wavelength optical I/O in AI datacentres. Responsibilities include PIC design, optical link and system modelling, WDM and fibre-coupling design, calibration and monitoring, prototype characterisation, automated measurement, and integration with electronic and photonic components. The student will develop tape-out-ready platforms, publish research, complete coursework, collaborate with academic and industry partners, and support outreach and education activities.

Lead and develop an internationally excellent research programme in microelectronic circuit design for photonic communications, secure funding, collaborate with Tyndall groups and industry, act as Principal Investigator in Rinn Semiconductors, supervise students, and contribute to teaching and departmental activities aligned with UCC Futures - Quantum & Photonics.
