Prepares surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for gross and microscopic examination using fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, IHC, and special stains. Assists pathologists with surgical and frozen specimens, operates and troubleshoots laboratory automation, accessions specimens, maintains inventory, and supports a clean, safe, confidential histology laboratory environment.

Provides safety and security for hospital buildings, property, patients, visitors, and staff. Works night shifts in the Public Safety department and may use defensive tactics, ASP baton, pepper spray, restraints, CPR, and computer skills. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, valid Illinois driver’s license, minimum age of 21, and one year of recent security experience or equivalent.
