Teams at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL)

Designs physical and electrical substation systems, including layouts, grounding, conduit, lighting, foundations, fencing, drawings, documentation, and bills of materials. Supports project estimates and technical leads while meeting quality, timeline, and budget requirements. The role also requires knowledge of protective relay and automation applications, SEL equipment, CAD tools, and electric utility design practices, along with mentoring junior designers and contributing to process improvements.

Supervise manufacturing operations by monitoring processes, managing employee performance, mentoring supervisors, addressing personnel issues, overseeing training, auditing processes, and implementing Lean Manufacturing and safety initiatives. The role coordinates with engineering on product launches, supports staffing and capital planning through data reporting, and drives continuous improvement aligned with organizational and World Class Manufacturing principles.

Supports the design, integration, testing, and validation of communication, protection, and automation solutions for electric power systems. Develops test plans, simulations, and laboratory evaluations to assess product functionality, performance, and reliability. Applies engineering and analytical methods to improve SEL products, documents technical findings, and collaborates with experienced engineers while building expertise in power systems, protocols, protection, and automation.
