Performs entry-level asbestos analysis using transmission electron microscopy under direct supervision. Operates analytical instruments, collects and documents test data, follows laboratory SOPs and QA/QC requirements, reports equipment issues and anomalies, maintains workspaces and logs, follows safety protocols, and participates in technical training.

Performs intermediate laboratory sample preparation, inorganic chemical analysis, instrument operation, calibration, maintenance, data interpretation, and documentation. Ensures compliance with SOPs, QA/QC standards, regulatory methods, and safety procedures. Troubleshoots routine analytical and equipment issues, escalates complex deviations, participates in audits and process improvements, and mentors junior analysts and technicians.

Supports clients by preparing quotes, answering testing inquiries, processing sample media orders, coordinating sample returns, and resolving concerns. Receives and verifies laboratory samples, reviews chain-of-custody documentation, enters data into ChemLIMS/eLIMS, labels samples, resolves discrepancies, assesses sample suitability, and reviews invoices. The role requires accuracy, organization, effective communication, multitasking, and collaboration with laboratory staff.

Supports AI and machine learning modernization projects by identifying integration opportunities, developing and testing AI-assisted tools, researching frameworks and APIs, collaborating with scientists and IT teams, and documenting workflows and outcomes. The intern will help automate internal business and laboratory processes and must work onsite in the Pittsburgh metro area during Fall 2026.

Conduct cement and concrete materials research, develop and validate analytical methods, and evaluate pozzolans and supplementary cementitious materials. Apply geochemistry and physical chemistry to interpret material reactions and performance. Manage research projects through client delivery, collaborate with engineers and manufacturers, communicate technical findings, support business development, and uphold scientific integrity and compliance.
