Oak Street Health Supporting Care Teams Across the U.S.

At Oak Street Health, “care” means more than just treatment. It means compassion — and it’s everywhere. You can see it in the mission to rebuild healthcare as it should be, the empowering team structure that welcomes new perspectives, and the inclusive culture bolstered by resource groups and training programs. Combined, these traits create a movement of tech talent committed to shaping a better health system. Through their work, providers can focus on what matters most: caring for others.

Inside Our Work

Transforming user feedback into stronger products

As a principal UX designer, Hector Oropeza is responsible for maintaining consistency of user experiences across products. “We collect user feedback using tech like FullStory, and conduct research through video chat or in-person sessions,” he said. Oropeza attributes his team’s success to tools like Mixpanel, Figma, Axure and Storybook, which help deliver the best product experience for Oak Street Health’s users. What else impresses him? The company’s focus on autonomy. “This ultimately leads to better tools for the care team, which in turn will help deliver better clinical outcomes.”

Our research and testing allow the team to build products that shape the direction of the company — but most importantly, address our users’ needs.

With support and opportunity comes growth

When Dan took the role of software engineering lead, he wasn’t just accepting a promotion. He was accepting a challenge: successfully transitioning his team to using microservices, cloud technology and VueJS, RXJS and gRPC. To ensure his success, Oak Street provided leadership and tech training that sharpened every skill he’d need. Now, he’s building tools to support the company’s national growth and mentoring junior devs.

The most fulfilling part of my role at Oak Street has been learning from and mentoring other developers within the team in hopes of delivering the best results to our care teams.

Empathy (and cutting edge tech) can change lives

Thanks to Leigha's experience as a nurse, she’s familiar with how technology can be a caregiver pain point instead of a valuable tool that can help treat vulnerable patients holistically. Unwilling to settle for the status quo, Leigha and her team use comprehensive user feedback to design roadmaps for cutting-edge tech that allows caregivers to focus on what matters: treating the patient, not just their diagnosis.
