Teams at Nueces County

Provides direct supervision, security, and care of juveniles in a regional juvenile facility. Monitors classes and activities, enforces rules, conducts searches and drug/alcohol screens, documents incidents, assists with counseling and life skills, oversees visitation/mail/housekeeping, and responds to crises. Completes required training and certifications and may act as shift supervisor when assigned.

Represent indigent clients in felony (and occasional misdemeanor/juvenile/appeal) cases, maintain a partial caseload, conduct legal research and investigations, draft and argue motions, supervise and train staff, assist Chief Public Defender with policies and operations, and assume Chief duties in their absence.

Unpaid internship providing administrative, legal, clerical, and secretarial support to the Public Defender's Office. Duties assigned per department needs. Candidates must be enrolled in an associate, bachelor, or Juris Doctor program, provide transcript or counselor letter, have identification, and complete pre-employment drug screening.
