The General Counsel will provide legal and strategic guidance to LSNYC leadership, focusing on labor and employment matters, union grievances, collective bargaining, litigation, risk management, contracts, leases, governance, compliance, and professional responsibility. The role supervises the Compliance department, develops organizational policies, works with outside counsel, and advises on nonprofit regulatory obligations. Candidates must have a JD, New York bar admission or eligibility, at least 10 years of legal experience, and substantial management experience in a unionized nonprofit environment.

Manages pre- and post-award grant accounting, including contract reconciliations, financial reporting, vouchers, journal entries, grant closeouts, budget support, compliance monitoring, and audit preparation. The role coordinates with finance, contract management, field offices, and grant personnel to ensure accurate funding allocations, timely submissions, adherence to GAAP and federal regulations, and reliable financial records.

Provides deportation defense in immigration court, handles BIA appeals and affirmative immigration matters before USCIS, and represents clients in SIJS-related family court proceedings. Conducts intake, outreach, community education, and collaborative advocacy with social workers, attorneys, community organizations, and pro bono partners. Manages a high-volume caseload, completes compliance administration, and may litigate habeas petitions.
