Genomics England Benefits Overview

Develop and own scalable backend software for Genomics England’s genomic research and healthcare platforms. Responsibilities include building Python microservices and REST APIs on AWS, working with relational databases and identity-management solutions, creating test automation, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with frontend, QA, platform, and third-party teams. The role also involves leading feature development, supporting secure and reliable services, and mentoring junior engineers.

Conduct genomic and multi-omics analyses for rare and complex disease projects, including drug target identification, biomarker and diagnostic discovery, and patient stratification. Prepare, quality-control, annotate, harmonize, and analyze whole genome sequencing data. Develop and benchmark computational tools and Nextflow pipelines, support internal and external collaborators, research emerging methods, and communicate findings through reports, publications, and presentations.

The ARC Chair leads Genomics England’s Access Review Committee, overseeing decisions on access to National Genomic Research Library data. Responsibilities include chairing meetings, reviewing applications, managing conflicts of interest, ensuring quorum and policy compliance, guiding data governance and security discussions, supporting participant involvement, and improving committee processes. The Chair collaborates with ethics, research, science, and participant committees while safeguarding the interests of patients, researchers, clinicians, the public, and partners.
