Mechanical Engineering Interns will design, prototype, test, and optimize mechanisms and mechanical structures supporting uranium enrichment technology. Responsibilities include participating in the product lifecycle, evaluating hardware through thermal, vibration, shock, and durability testing, analyzing test failures, developing mitigations, and collaborating with electrical, software, manufacturing, nuclear, materials, and physics engineers. Interns will gain hands-on experience bringing hardware from concept through production.

Lead and build an integrated safeguards and security program for a uranium enrichment facility, covering physical security, personnel and information protection, classification, MC&A, export control, incident response, regulatory readiness, and site security operations. Serve as site security lead for regulators and government stakeholders, translate NRC/DOE requirements into procedures and training, conduct assessments and investigations, and partner across engineering, operations, legal, and IT to ensure inspection-ready compliance.

Own design, specification, and commissioning of PLC/HMI/SCADA and safety instrumented systems. Lead functional safety lifecycle activities (hazard analysis, SIL determination, verification/validation, proof testing). Develop interlocks, shutdown logic, cause-and-effect matrices, and alarm strategies. Support HAZOP/LOPA, FAT/SAT, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational readiness. Produce engineering documentation and collaborate with electrical, mechanical, process, nuclear, operations, and safety teams.
