Teams at Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression

Paid, full-time 10-week internship for U.S.-based undergraduate students interested in free speech and civil liberties. Interns conduct research, writing, and administrative work; support student programs, conferences, media, development, and policy teams; lead educational sessions; and serve as residential counselors. The role is fully in person in Philadelphia, requires availability for the entire program, and includes seminars, mentorship, and collaborative work with FIRE staff.

Part-time law clerkship supporting First Amendment litigation, campus rights advocacy, public advocacy, policy reform, and legislative work. Responsibilities include legal research, drafting memoranda, policy analyses, advocacy letters, bill analyses, public commentary, and investigating expressive-rights violations. Clerks work with FIRE attorneys in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., or remotely for 15 weeks while earning academic credit.

The Arthur D. Hellman Fellow works for 10 weeks with FIRE’s First Amendment litigators on strategic public-interest litigation. Responsibilities include legal research and writing, client interaction, media relations, and contributing to active cases defending free speech and expression. The fellowship is designed for rising second- and third-year law students and includes training, professional networking, and potential future opportunities with FIRE.
