Represents death-sentenced and other habeas petitioners in federal post-conviction proceedings. Responsibilities include case investigation, transcript review, petition and brief drafting, supervising investigators and paralegals, coordinating experts, conducting evidentiary hearings, presenting oral arguments, and preparing clemency petitions. Attorneys may also represent federal criminal defendants and noncapital habeas petitioners. The role requires strong advocacy, writing, communication, teamwork, and availability for occasional nights, weekends, and holidays.

Provides comprehensive litigation support to federal public defenders across pre-indictment cases, trials, sentencing, appeals, and habeas matters. Responsibilities include reviewing and organizing discovery, preparing case materials, managing databases and digital evidence, creating reports and courtroom presentations, maintaining case indices and witness files, supporting experts and bail processes, and meeting clients. The role requires advanced technology skills, litigation paralegal experience, flexibility for nights and weekends, and collaboration with defense teams.

Investigates capital habeas cases involving individuals sentenced to death. Reviews discovery and case files, develops investigation plans, requests records, locates and interviews witnesses, prepares investigative reports, declarations, and timelines, maintains client relationships, assists with hearings, and may testify. The role requires OSINT proficiency, cultural competence, strong communication and organization, caseload management, Spanish proficiency as preferred, extensive travel, and schedule flexibility.
