Building an Online Learning Destination

Course Hero envisions a world where every student graduates confident and prepared. Course Hero is a confluence of empathy, responsibility, transparency, collaboration, technology and continuous learning, which have all inspired many of Course Hero’s initiatives and strategies. “I have a daughter, so when I think about any product, I think about how she will use it and get the optimal value out of it,” Jyoti Shete said. This gives her a sense of responsibility towards students and educators. As a senior staff software engineer working on Course Hero’s learning platform, she’s helping to design robust and highly scalable systems. We all know that education transforms lives for generations to come.

Employee Reviews

Cece Liu

By utilizing technology to meet students where they are and provide the most efficient and contextual study experience, we can improve learning outcomes.

Cece Liu, Director of Product

The universal search for knowledge is driven by a person’s individual desire to understand the world. That’s why Cece Liu and her peers at Course Hero leverage AI and machine learning to create educational paths tailored to each student’s unique needs. To succeed in this, the company hosts regular hackathons and interactive lunch-and-learns to inspire and inform team members and to create a space to discuss the latest industry news and trends. For Liu, this frequent exchange of knowledge fosters an environment defined by experimentation and progress. “All of these efforts create a culture that values continuous learning and innovation,” she said.

Jyoti Shete

There are several opportunities at Course Hero to continue improving as an engineer, get mentorship, and add value to the business, teams, and team members we have.

Jyoti Shete, Senior Staff Software Engineer

It’s vital to continue learning throughout one’s career. Unfamiliarity with new technologies may give way to imposter syndrome, especially as a new hire. Jyoti Shete expressed doubts in her abilities to her manager. This opened up empathetic conversations. “I realized the importance of letting go of performance while in the learning phase,” Shete said. This helped Shete advance in the ranks to senior staff engineer, a role created by leadership for those who prefer to stay on a technical path instead of management. Now she’s developing large-scale, robust systems using complex technologies.
