Repairs and preserves rare books, manuscripts, and paper collections using established conservation practices. Designs protective enclosures, documents treatments, performs preservation surveys, supports digitization and exhibitions, trains staff, handles disaster salvage and mold remediation, maintains lab equipment, and directs technician-level conservation work.

Performs original cataloging of complex biomedical and multidisciplinary library materials using RDA, BIBCO, CONSER, MARC21, MeSH, NLM Classification, and LC Classification. Creates authority records, updates bibliographic and holdings records, analyzes subjects, and ensures compliance with NLM, national, and international standards. The role is full-time and onsite at the National Library of Medicine.
