The Charge RN oversees Emergency Department operations during assigned shifts, supervises and coaches nursing staff, coordinates patient care and flow, manages resources and bed assignments, ensures regulatory and safety compliance, supports infection prevention and quality improvement, and provides direct clinical leadership during emergencies. The role requires collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary teams, staff education, patient and employee rounding, and effective communication across the hospital.

Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations independently, following imaging protocols and ensuring patient identification, safety, comfort, and confidentiality. Operates ultrasound equipment, recognizes and documents pathology for radiologist interpretation, records procedures in the electronic health record, uploads documents to PACS, maintains infection-control standards, and manages imaging supplies. Requires clinical sonography experience, certification or registry eligibility, and Basic Life Support certification.

Leads all nursing operations for a hospital system, overseeing patient care quality, regulatory compliance, staffing, budgets, performance metrics, and clinical improvement initiatives. The CNO develops nursing policies and strategies, mentors nursing leaders, supports recruitment and retention, improves patient safety and satisfaction, and participates in executive-level planning and decision-making.
