Assembles, aligns, welds, cuts, repairs, and pressure-tests boilers, tanks, vats, pressure vessels, and related components using blueprints, hand tools, power tools, rigging, and crane signals. Performs field repairs, fabrication, maintenance, refractory lining, and safety-compliant installation activities. Requires physical work, climbing, working at heights, lifting, and applying shop mathematics and measurement skills.

Leads scaffold and formwork crews while working as a journeyman. Selects materials, interprets blueprints, measures and cuts wood, erects and dismantles scaffolding, installs safety components, braces concrete forms, secures structures, rigs materials, and performs minor tool maintenance. The role requires adherence to safety rules, accurate measurements, basic mathematics, physical strength, climbing, balancing, and working safely at heights.
