Leads shipboard engineering operations, including propulsion and power-system safety, vessel maintenance, emergency repairs, drydock and refit support, watch-crew assignments, inspections, regulatory compliance, security audits, crew training, and emergency drills. The role also supports operational improvements and supervises comprehensive onboard equipment maintenance programs.

Operate and manage ship machinery, equipment, operating systems, and onboard services to ensure safe, efficient vessel performance. The role requires technical, interpersonal, and leadership skills, strong safe-work practices, and commitment to passenger service and operational efficiency. Applicants holding Transport Canada Second Class Motor certification or higher may be considered, subject to the company’s qualifications, experience, and suitability requirements.

Manage and operate ship machinery, equipment, operating systems, and services as First Engineer aboard large coastal vessels. Ensure safe, efficient vessel operations while applying strong technical, interpersonal, leadership, and safe-work-practice expertise. The role may include training on technically advanced vessels and requires alignment with BC Ferries’ safety, service, and performance standards.
