The Senior Editor will lead The Atlantic’s Science and Health coverage, overseeing staff writers and collaborating with editors to produce ambitious, compelling stories about science and its impact. Responsibilities include assigning and shaping magazine stories, editing breaking news and deeply reported projects, managing reporters, and guiding coverage across fields such as physics, biology, neuroscience, climate change, and geology. The role requires strong leadership, editorial judgment, scientific curiosity, and flexibility for occasional night, early-morning, and weekend work.

Senior Editor for The Atlantic’s Science and Health team, overseeing staff writers and collaborating with editors to produce high-impact stories on the politics of science and health. Responsibilities include assigning and shaping magazine stories, editing breaking news and deeply reported projects, managing reporters, and covering topics such as misinformation, AI, policy, regulation, academic conflicts, and medical breakthroughs. The role requires occasional night, early-morning, and weekend work.

Coordinates magazine print production from editorial preflight through press, including PDF preparation, advertising materials, proofs, special print projects, vendor coordination, quality assurance, and issue distribution. Supports online article conversion, postal and distribution requirements, production schedules, specifications, and tracking documents. Requires consumer-magazine production experience, InDesign and Acrobat Pro fluency, prepress and image-preparation knowledge, strong Excel skills, attention to detail, and flexibility for occasional night, early-morning, and weekend work.
