Designs, models, optimizes, assembles, integrates, and tests optical and photonic subsystems for laser communications terminals. The role includes requirements definition, trade studies, breadboard validation, field trials, supplier management, and technical leadership. Candidates need optical design experience with Zemax or similar tools, hands-on experience with lasers, detectors, modulators, and fiber or free-space optics, plus practical laboratory testing experience.

Manage product development projects for optical ground station and lasercom systems: define scope, plan timelines, control budgets and forecasts, mitigate risks, coordinate stakeholders and suppliers, support documentation and change control, and align technical workstreams with programme-level reporting.

Lead end-to-end design, integration, verification, and testing of complex electronic subsystems for optical communications terminals. Responsibilities include requirements and architecture, schematic and PCB development, component selection, harness design, hardware-software integration, communication protocol debugging, test equipment design, documentation, AIT readiness, supplier coordination, and mentoring engineers.
