Leads the Assembly of First Nations’ Justice sector, advancing First Nations-led justice systems, legal traditions, community safety, prevention, and implementation of the MMIWG Calls for Justice and TRC Calls to Action. Develops policy and strategic advice, advocates with governments and partners, represents AFN, manages a professional team, coordinates cross-sector initiatives, and prepares reports and presentations. The role is primarily office-based in Ottawa with regular travel and occasional evening or weekend work.

Conduct research on First Nations homelessness policies and best practices; develop policy proposals and recommendations; evaluate regulations; consult with government, educational, and First Nations partners; prepare reports, policy briefs, and presentations; present findings; maintain stakeholder relationships; monitor emerging issues; and support working groups, meetings, and organizational work plans. The role is primarily office-based in Ottawa, with regular travel and flexible evening or weekend hours as needed.

Conducts research and analysis on First Nations justice priorities, including policing, community safety, restorative justice, legal reform, and rights-based governance. Develops policy recommendations, maintains datasets, drafts briefing materials, supports consultations and stakeholder relationships, and leads sector-specific projects. The role also provides procurement and project-management support, coordinates engagements, and contributes to national advocacy positions and First Nations-led justice frameworks. Occasional travel, flexible hours, and community engagement are required.
