Build and maintain Kafka ecosystem features across async Python backends, Karapace open-source components, APIs, connectors, and React/TypeScript interfaces. Responsibilities include schema compatibility, Kafka Connect ecosystem maintenance, code reviews, testing, CI/CD, production troubleshooting, technical planning, and end-to-end feature ownership. The role requires distributed systems knowledge, Linux debugging, schema evolution expertise, and daily use of AI coding tools.

Own full-stack development across Python backend services and the React-based Aiven Console. Lead architecture and delivery of managed open-source data products, build AI-driven data discovery and context workflows, contribute to upstream OSS projects, mentor engineers, and shape technical direction across teams.

Own the architecture and operation of Aiven’s managed ClickHouse platform. Design database internals, backup and restore, cluster coordination, sharding, node lifecycle, streaming ingestion, CDC, and data engineering tooling. Diagnose distributed production issues, manage ClickHouse releases, improve observability and reliability, author RFCs, influence roadmap and commercial decisions, and mentor engineers. The role requires deep Python, C++, ClickHouse, database internals, distributed systems, cloud, Linux, and data engineering expertise.
