While Debbie Kemp’s core responsibilities at Biz2Credit revolve around implementing strategies and processes, she believes her most important role is to be a “steward of culture.”
“I care deeply about how people work best, how they think and what motivates their creativity and passion around work,” the chief people officer explained.
For Kemp, building culture at Biz2Credit is an ongoing process that involves cultivating transparency, autonomy, creativity and celebration. It’s reflected across every aspect of the organization, from career development opportunities to a focus on work-life balance.
While Kemp has a leading role in fostering the company’s supportive environment, individual contributors are the ones who play the biggest part in creating this culture. Whether they’re suggesting new ways to improve the employee experience or acknowledging holidays across the globe, employees are the ones who drive the company’s mission and values forward.
“We encourage and create space for team members to think outside the box and challenge the status quo,” Kemp said.
Below, Kemp shares more about Biz2Credit’s empowering culture, including the growth opportunities available to employees.
DRIVING THE FINTECH REVOLUTION
Biz2Credit’s mission is “to provide small businesses with the best funding options for each and every project or capital need, with technology that makes business financing easy to understand and easy to access.” To accomplish this, the company offers an AI-powered platform that helps financial institutions automate business lending, therefore helping them increase efficiency, optimize risk and expand into new markets.
Building culture is one of my top priorities and is an ongoing process. We have a great team of employees, and we meet regularly as a company and as individual teams — ensuring clear and transparent communication. We believe in giving team members the autonomy and authority they need to make decisions and take ownership of their work. Additionally, we celebrate milestones and successes.
What role do your team members play in cultivating culture?
Our team is very involved in building and strengthening our culture. Chris Hudak is one of our team members who has taken this on in everything he does. For example, he recently evaluated and implemented an internal communication platform, which enables us to enhance our employee experience beginning with onboarding and throughout every day. We also celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and global holidays.
BIZ2CREDIT’S CORE VALUES
What structures or policies support Biz2Credit’s culture, values and mission?
Overall, supporting our culture, values and mission requires a holistic approach that integrates these elements into various aspects of our organization — from hiring and onboarding to daily operations and decision-making processes. A few key components that can help support our culture include hiring practices that prioritize candidates who possess necessary skills and align with our values; ensuring our leaders inspire trust, create clarity and unlock the potential in their team; and fostering an open communication channel, which enables our employees to discuss and share their ideas and feedback.
What opportunities do team members have to grow professionally?
The tools and support needed can vary depending on each team member’s goals and career stage. This includes career development workshops, training programs, mentorship, performance feedback, goal-setting, work-life balance and emotional support. There can also be opportunities from public speaking to leadership positions within our industry.
What is the employee value proposition for those thinking about joining Biz2Credit?
We’re a team of individuals who bring our unique personalities, backgrounds and experiences to work every day. We believe that diversity makes us stronger — it’s why we value a culture that’s inclusive and supportive. Additionally, we look for people who are excited about the opportunity to make a difference, want to work in an environment that’s both challenging and fun and are eager to bring their whole selves to work.
