Summary: Employees at Iodine Software report career growth through direct ownership of high-impact projects, role progression, and access to learning resources. Career paths span domains including data science, clinical consulting, and human resources. Supportive leadership and cross-functional collaboration are cited as consistent enablers of advancement.

When George Lubian joined Iodine Software, he wasn’t just handed small assignments or menial tasks while he ramped — he was asked to build a new product from the ground up.

George, who graduated in 2022 with a master’s degree in data science and a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Southern California, joined the company as one of the earliest hires working on the utilization management product. Throughout the nearly three years he has worked at Iodine, he has overseen the development of machine learning models that support the company’s product, primarily focusing on classification and, more recently, regression modeling.

And as George contributes to company-wide initiatives, he has found the support — and autonomy — to evolve, culminating in his recent promotion from associate data scientist to data scientist.

“While I’m not taking on new responsibilities in a formal sense, I’m continuing to grow by taking on more complex projects and pushing myself to deliver high-impact work,” he shared.

This motivation to do more inspires every employee at Iodine Software, including Clinical Product Consultant Manager Chaka Prior. Having worked in healthcare for more than 20 years, she has developed a wide range of skills, including the ability to bridge clinical practice with documentation accuracy, compliance and strategic outcomes.

In her current role, Chaka ensures the voice of the clinician is integrated into the company’s product development and customer success initiatives, leaning on a variety of resources to succeed in these efforts.

“I am continuously empowered to deepen my expertise in the areas that are transforming the future of healthcare,” she said.

For Chaka, Iodine Software has enabled her to succeed in her field — and the industry as a whole. This has also been the case for Director of Human Capital Management Alan Alonzo, who has worked in the human resources space for several years. And while he has had a myriad of transformative experiences throughout his career journey, the opportunities he’s had at Iodine Software are second to none.

“Working for Iodine has significantly helped me make progress toward my career goals by giving me the opportunity to work on projects that align closely with my professional craft while advancing the company’s business objectives,” he said.

As Iodine Software continues to grow, the company is ensuring its people have what they need to grow alongside it. George, Chaka and Alan are a testament to this commitment, each carving out their own dynamic growth journey defined by skill-building, support from others and countless opportunities to make an impact.

George’s Growth Journey

Since joining Iodine Software, George has been encouraged to grow in his field — and across the entire data science lifecycle.

From building models to deploying them and supporting them in production, he has done it all during his time at the company. These experiences have enabled him to work on inference and deploying models into real-world workflows, which are two skills he hadn’t had the chance to develop prior to joining the company.

George has worked on various projects at Iodine Software, but one that proved to be especially challenging involved exploring a new model type where labeled data wasn’t easily available. He shared that he experimented with unsupervised techniques and weak supervision approaches, like programmatic labeling, to try and tackle the problem, and while the project wasn’t pursued any further, it proved to be entirely worthwhile.

“It gave me hands-on experience with methods that were new both to me and to our broader team,” George said.

While this experience proved to be pivotal in shaping his foundational knowledge of data science, he recently took on a project that became a milestone not just for his career but for the company as a whole. George shared that he worked on building the first sequential regression model within the organization, which tackled a new type of problem and introduced a new modeling technique.

“It was a rewarding experience that pushed me to grow both technically and strategically,” he said.

George continues to have opportunities to evolve in his role. He said that he’s currently focused on getting a new sequential regression model to a point where it’s ready for production, which has been an “exciting challenge” that has enabled him to learn along the way. George is also working on increasing the amount of data the company is able to use during model training as the organization transitions to cloud infrastructure.

“Moving from server-based development to cloud-based development has opened up new possibilities, and I’m exploring how to take advantage of that,” he said.

Growth is ingrained in Lubian’s day-to-day work, promulgated by the projects he gets to work on — and the support he receives from his peers. According to him, his colleagues are always willing to walk through technical challenges or share their perspectives on modeling approaches, cultivating a culture in which innovation is a team effort, not an individual responsibility. So even though Lubian is a fully remote worker, he feels like he is truly a part of a cohesive team in which team members share knowledge frequently — and achieve goals together.

“Even with the remote setup, there’s a strong sense of team connection,” he said.

Chaka Prior’s Growth Journey

Before Chaka became an advocate for healthcare AI products at Iodine Software, she worked at their bedsides in critical care and coronary care services, where she developed a strong foundation in clinical excellence, patient-centered care and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Once she had developed these skills, she went on to pursue roles related to education and the quality and revenue cycle areas of healthcare before transitioning into the clinical documentation integrity field. Chaka then went on to pursue roles in CDI management and clinical education, quality safety, peer review, denial prevention and project management before ultimately stepping into her role as a clinical product consultant manager on Iodine Software’s customer experience team, where she helps maintain AwareCDI, an AI-powered solution that drives consistent and accurate revenue capture.

According to Chaka, the company has offered her ample opportunities to refine her skills. While she has expanded her knowledge in technical and product-focused language, she has also gained exposure to marketing principles and customer experience strategies, enhancing her ability to articulate value, drive engagement and support the delivery of impactful solutions for the company’s clients.

Chaka noted that she has been involved in various impactful projects, such as playing a key role in enhancing the new hire experience by refining and standardizing onboarding procedures. She has also collaborated closely with the company’s education team to implement electronic learning modules within their learning management system.

That’s why Chaka doesn’t just consider Iodine Software a workplace; rather she sees it as a “unique and inspiring place to grow professionally.”

“What sets Iodine apart is the genuine enthusiasm and commitment shared across internal teams and in our engagement with clients, creating an environment where new ideas are welcomed, individual contributions are valued and professional growth is always encouraged,” she said.

Through training and mentoring others, Chaka has honed her leadership and communication skills, helping others navigate change while building her own sense of confidence. She has also strengthened her change management capabilities not only by leading teams through transition but by adapting to new tools, perspectives and challenges.

From access to industry-leading content to structured leadership development programs, Prior believes that there are many ways in which the company actively invests in helping its team members grow — and reach their full potential.

“It’s this combination of culture, innovation and opportunity that makes Iodine Software such a rewarding place to build a career,” she said.

As Chaka continues to hone her knowledge of the healthcare technology space, she’s focused on making a bigger impact on quality, compliance and standardization of practice. She shared that she’s currently exploring more opportunities to actively engage in the CDI community and expand her skills as a trainer and leader. In doing so, Chaka aims to stay at the intersection of clinical expertise and technology in order to drive sustainable improvements in how healthcare is delivered and documented.

“My journey with Iodine Software has been both deeply fulfilling and professionally enriching,” she said. “The challenges I’ve embraced here have pushed me to grow in meaningful ways, and I’m looking forward to what’s next.”

Alan’s Growth Journey

According to Alan, Iodine Software has given him the opportunity to evolve within what he considers his “professional craft” — HR.

Prior to joining the company, he held HR roles at companies like Crunchyroll, Blizzard Entertainment, and Daimler, in addition to working at various tech startups. Now, Alan leads Iodine Software’s human capital initiatives and manages a team of HR individuals who he said are “committed to making a lasting impact in our field.”

“I’ve had the opportunity to introduce new tools and strategies that not only streamline the process of finding exceptional talent but also enhance the overall employee experience,” he shared. “This has allowed me to make a tangible impact on the organization, ensuring we attract and retain top performers while fostering a workplace culture where people feel valued and supported.”

Supported by the company’s continuous education program, Alan has pursued additional training and certifications to further build out his skill set. He’s also taken on challenging initiatives that pushed him to think strategically and lead cross-functional efforts and continues to learn from his colleagues, enabling him to broaden his understanding — and perspective.

“This blend of formal resources and real-world experience creates an environment where growth is constant and closely tied to both personal and company success,” Alan said.

Leaders play a key role in employees’ development by helping them identify growth opportunities and encouraging them to utilize the company’s learning reimbursement offering to pursue certifications and courses that align with their career goals. They also help encourage team members to be collaborative and share knowledge, best practices and real-world experiences with each other.

“This approach creates a culture of continuous improvement and empowers employees to take ownership of their development,” Alan said.

Inspired by this focus on continuous improvement, he aims to take on more initiatives that will strengthen his expertise in human capital strategy, employee development and organizational effectiveness. He shared that his next challenge will be driving larger, enterprise-wide programs that enhance development for all across the organization and attracting talent through progressive total rewards offerings.

“I hope to accomplish stronger, more scalable frameworks for talent growth that not only support individual career progression but also strengthen the company’s overall performance and culture,” Alan said.

Overall, his experiences at Iodine Software have been transformative from a professional standpoint, leaving an impression that he believes will carry him throughout the rest of his career.

“The ability to lead these innovative initiatives has greatly enriched my professional journey and reinforced my commitment to driving positive change within the company and the human resources field,” Alan shared.
