Loop Energy, a hydrogen fuel cell manufacturer based in Greater Vancouver, was acquired by Teralta Hydrogen Solutions, a company specializing in clean hydrogen and e-natural gas production. Teralta will relocate its head office to Loop Energy’s existing facility in Burnaby as a result of the acquisition.

Teralta develops technology and infrastructure for storing and delivering alternative energy and hydrogen. Loop Energy builds fuel cell systems to electrify commercial vehicles and stationary power applications, using its patented eFlow technology to offer improved fuel efficiency, power density and fuel durability.

Acquiring this technology will further Teralta’s line of business for zero-emission mobile and portable energy solutions, allowing it to expand its tech for use cases in data centers, mining and construction.

“Loop Energy’s mission is to design and commercialize hydrogen fuel cell technology to drive zero-emissions,” Simon Pickup, Teralta’s CEO, said in a statement. “The two companies combined will advance the mission, evolving the business model by combining Loop technology with Teralta’s clean hydrogen production, storage and delivery infrastructure.”

Teralta’s new head office in Burnaby will serve as the company’s technical base for testing and integrating partner fuel cells during project implementation. The facility’s existing infrastructure will enable Teralta to store and distribute clean hydrogen throughout the greater Vancouver area.
