AEG launches branded content division, AEG Studios

Sports and live entertainment company AEG had a busy week. The company announced the launching of a new venture dedicated to creating branded content as a part of AEG’s Global Partnership group. On a related note, California's hockey team of record, the Los Angeles Kings, announced that General Manager and President Dean Lombardi and Head Coach Darryl Sutter would not be returning next season. Darkstore expands to LA

Darkstore, a San Francisco-based startup that offers same-day delivery for e-commerce sites, announced the addition of a $1.4 million seed round and also revealed it would be expanding operations to LA. Presently, the company operates in currently operates in San Francisco, New York and Phoenix, and in addition to LA, will be expanding to Chicago and Seattle. [Press Release]

 

DataScience visualization tool for exploring data trends

LA-based DataScience revealed a new data visualization tool this week designed to help users explore emerging trends in data. DataScience Trends, as the tool is called, lets users compare activity across the open source libraries without needing to write any code. [Press Release]

 

Heal adds former Secretary of the Navy to its board

Santa Monica-based on-demand doctor service Heal continues to add to an already star-studded board. This week, Secretary Ray Mabus, who spent almost eight years as U.S. Navy Secretary under President Barack Obama, joined the team. At the end of 2016, the company added former presidential candidate, Richard Gephardt, to its board, after naming former Dodger owner Jamie McCourt to the board earlier in the year. [Heal]

Neural Analytics, $10 million

Investors: Reimagined Ventures.

Neural Analytics, which develops medical devices that help identify brain injuries and disorders, announced the addition of $10 million this week. Their revolutionary ultrasound platform, Lucid System, helps doctors measure and display cerebral blood flow velocities while monitoring patients with brain disorders. The company is currently conducting a feasibility study in Tennessee for patients suffering an acute ischemic stroke. [Built In LA]

MFour Mobile Research, $5 million

Investors: Kayne NewRoad Ventures.

MFour Mobile Research, which develops a native survey app that helps provide consumer insights for brands by leveraging mobile devices, added a $5 million strategic investment this week. The company plans to use the funding to expand internationally and scale its staff. [Press Release]

Virtualitics, $4.4 million

Investors: The Venture Reality Fund (The VR Fund).

Speaking of data visualization, LA-based startup Virtualitics announced the addition of a $4.4 million Series A this week. The company, which develops big data visualization and analytics tools for virtual reality and augmented reality environments, is currently in private beta. [Press Release]
